Bay View Bed and Breakfast

Mackinac Island, Michigan

Mackinac Island and a stay at Bay View Bed and Breakfast are the antidote when your life is too much ruled by tick-tock, tick-tock. Here instead, relax in a place known for the rhythmic clip-clop, clip clop of horses going by on the street from “downtown” only a short walk away.

Bay View B&B occupies an historic waterfront building loaded with charm. A delicious hot breakfast is served in a room overlooking the harbor. Our 20 rooms, including suites often chosen by people celebrating a honeymoon or other special occasion, offer the modern conveniences that today’s travelers expect, including private bathrooms.

From a typical five-star TripAdvisor review: “ Truly lovely, one of a kind rooms. Rose's daily creations are so delicious...delightful breakfast, afternoon cookies right from the oven, and nightly decadent dessert are all awesome. Staff is warm and friendly.”

Day trips to Mackinac Island are very nice, but to experience the island before and after the first ferryboat arrives and the last one of the day departs is magical. You’ll hear no motorized sounds, maybe a little music from a restaurant across the way, and the horses, of course. A bugler high up the bluff at Fort Mackinac plays “Reveille” at 9 a.m. and “Taps” at 10 p.m.

So peaceful. You don’t want to miss it.

Book early for the best choice of rooms at Bay View Bed and Breakfast. Open May through October.

Unique experiences at Bay View Bed and Breakfast

 Adventure

It’s a mistake to visit Mackinac Island and just stay close to the restaurants and shops (although with 14 fudge stores on the island you could make an adventure of visiting all of them).

Bring your bikes or rent bikes or horses. The island has 70 miles of trails for hiking, biking or horseback riding.

Rent kayaks or standup paddle boards. Strike off on your own or join a guided tour.

What about parasailing? Bay View B&B offers a whole new way to view the Straits of Mackinac. Inquire when booking or at check-in.

Sailing and fishing charters are also available.

 Historic Charm

When you stay at Bay View, we’ll tell you what we’ve learned about the fascinating history of this house. But do make time to visit Fort Mackinac (pronounced MACK-in-awe) and Fort Holmes, where America’s early history comes to life with reenactments and interactive displays. The island was considered to be of strategic military importance, and the fortunes of war did not always favor the Americans.

Among several interesting museums on the island, one that we recommend is The Richard and Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum, featuring fine and decorative arts throughout American and Native American history.

Weddings

Couples flock to Mackinac Island to tie the knot or renew their vows in such numbers that weddings are held every day of the week. With the water views and services we offer, Bay View is the perfect spot for the ceremony and/or reception. Our Veranda Dining Room and harbor-side sundeck can accommodate up to 30 people. We have the experience to make your destination wedding perfect.

Autumn

Bay View B&B remains open until the end of October. After school is back in session and the ferries are not as full of families -- for many travelers, it's a favorite time to enjoy the island. From restaurants to trails to shops to history attractions, everything is less crowded. The fall color changes can be spectacular.

Family Fun

Although not advertised as a destination for families with children, Bay View Bed and Breakfast does have some rooms that are suites or that offer a twin- and queen-bed combination. Adults who wish to bring a well-behaved child or two should contact the innkeeper to see what’s available.
